The Dallas Australian Shepherd & Herding Dog Rescue (aka DASH) is doing something special for herding breeds in need. When I teamed up with them, the goal was clear: build a site that matched their heart and hustle. It needed to be welcoming, easy to use, and actually helpful in getting dogs adopted. Here’s how we brought that vision to life.
A Palette of Passion and Purpose
First things first: the vibe. I wanted the color palette to feel warm and trustworthy, like the kind of place you’d feel good about adopting from. So I picked colors that felt cozy but clean, friendly but still professional. Something that told visitors right away: this is a safe space for dogs and the people who love them.
Structuring a Sanctuary Online
I built the site to walk visitors through DASH’s world step by step. From learning about their mission on the “About Us” page to scrolling through adoptable pups on the “Adopt” page, the layout guides people without overwhelming them. The centerpiece? A long-form adoption application that looks simple, but covers everything DASH needs to make smart matches.
A Form with Heart
The adoption form wasn’t just a copy/paste job; I built it from the ground up with DASH’s values in mind. The questions were designed to help the rescue really get each applicant’s lifestyle, home situation, and what kind of dog would thrive with them. It’s detailed, but still easy to fill out and that balance makes a big difference.
The Impact of Thoughtful Design
Since the site launched, the feedback’s been amazing. People are staying on the site longer, submitting more applications, and getting through the process smoother than ever. Even better? More dogs are finding homes. (Including mine… I adopted my own Aussie through DASH!)
